RAVENCULT - Morbid Blood CD Review

RAVENCULT - Morbid Blood CD
Hells Headbangers
Genre: Black Metal
Rating: 4/5

Back in 2007 this Greek Black Metal act put out a pretty decent debut with Temples of Torment which was on Dark Essence Records. Plenty of time has passed and now here's the followup on a new label. RAVENCULT were never one to follow in the footsteps of their nation's blackened contemporaries. For them they like things black and thrashy which is what you get on Morbid Blood. There's plenty of speed when opener "Sacrilege of Death" blasts forth. The band likes to take their cues from such northern notables like GEHENNA, AURA NOIR, NIFELHEIM and to some extent DARKTHRONE. To me that's all well and good especially when the blackened vile erupts on other cuts like "Possessed on Burial Ground" and the almost crust core "With Hunter In Eyes". Of course RAVENCULT are not with out some texture to their fury. The title cut does have some slowed atmosphere which is worthy of raising your fist in the air for the horned finger salute. As a whole Morbid Blood is definitely a thirst quencher for anyone into hell raising.
